Everything went up in the quarter but the EUR/USD

FXStreet (San Francisco) - Wall Street closed mixed on Monday but it posted decent gains in the month and second quarter. The S&P and the Nasdaq performed its sixth positive quarter while the Russell 2000 ended with gains for 8th straight period.

The gold and oil also posted advances in the last three months as the energy remains in its shy but consistent up trend. The Gold bounced hard in the last few days to recover 2-month losses and close at highs since April 14.

On the other hand, the EUR/USD performed negative in the second quarter as the pair wasn't able to break above the 1.4000 level on May 8 and it was launched back to 1.3500 on June 5. Now the EUR/USD is testing the 1.3700 level at highs since May 21.

The Dow Jones close Monday 25.24 points or 0.15% down to 16,826.60; the DJIA performed 0.65% positive in the month, 2.24% in the second quarter and an accumulative 1.51% YTD.

The S&P 500 declined 0.73 points or 0.04% in the day to close at 1,960.23; the index was 1.91% in the month, an impressive 4.69% in the quarter and 6.05% YTD.

The Nasdaq advanced 10.25 points or 0.23% on Monday to 4,408.18; the composite posted 3.9% gains in June, 4.98% in the second quarter and 5.54% YTD.

GBP/JPY rises back above 173.00

The GBP/JPY printed a fresh daily high during the last trading hour in Wall Street at 173.39, hitting the strongest level since last Thursday.

Risk RBA will step up rhetoric on AUD - RBS
